Amr Mahmoud
Dr. Amr M. Mahmoud is Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications in pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry. His research centres on electrochemical sensors, molecularly imprinted polymers, and point-of-care diagnostics — with a consistent focus on applications the industry can actually use: solid-contact ion-selective electrodes for in-line dissolution and content uniformity testing, real-time analyzers for process analytical technology, and therapeutic drug monitoring in plasma. Much of his recent work advances green and sustainable analytical methods, assessed against recognised greenness tools. Dr. Amr earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alberta, Canada, followed by post-doctoral fellowships there, before returning to Cairo University where he supervises MSc and PhD research. He leads nationally funded research projects through STDF and ASRT, and serves as guest editor for special issues in analytical chemistry journals.
Experience
22+ Years
Analytical chemistry academic and researcher focused on electrochemical sensors, molecularly imprinted polymers and point-of-care diagnostics, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and applied work on in-line/real-time pharmaceutical analysis.
Industry Background
Pharmaceutical Analysis and Electrochemical Sensor Development
Built a research career spanning molecular electronics and biosensing at the University of Alberta through to pharmaceutical applications at Cairo University, including solid-contact ion-selective sensors for content uniformity and dissolution testing, therapeutic drug monitoring in plasma, green and sustainable analytical methods, and process analytical technology (PAT) real-time analyzers. Leads funded national projects (STDF, ASRT–PRISM) and serves as guest editor for analytical chemistry special issues.
Academic Background
PhD in Chemistry, University of Alberta; B.Sc. Pharmacy, Cairo University
B.Sc. in Pharmacy (Cairo University, 2003) and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alberta (2012) under Prof. Richard L. McCreery, followed by post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Alberta. Assistant Professor (2013–2020) then Associate Professor (2020–present) of Analytical Chemistry at Cairo University, supervising MSc and PhD theses in pharmaceutical analysis.
